Showing Character
Character Counts is a new program we are using at our school. Every
month we focus on a different pillar of this program. I do my best to
teach my Kindergarten students what these big words mean
(Trustworthiness, Citizenship, Respect).
I was really looking forward to the month of February so I could talk about something pretty easy and
not very abstract: Caring. After reading a story that did a nice job
illustrating this Pillar. I went on to talk about personal examples how
I have shown Caring to others. The students were engaged, as children
can be very empathetic when hearing about other in need. Now was the
moment of my lesson where I wanted the students to tell me how they show
Caring. Hands waved and I called on one student that was just beaming. I
knew he must have a great example that was really going to bring home
the lesson. He opened his mouth and said proudly, "I carry my little
sister around the house."
Lesson over.
