Summer Activities

Ahh, summer. Times of carefree days and stay-up late nights. Kids love it. Teachers love it. Everyone is refreashed and energized as the school bell sounds again in late August. But alas,as teachers look out at the sea of tanned faces and freckles, they realize that it is going to take a good month or two of review work to get the students' skills back up to where they were when they left in May.

Wasted time? Year round school advocates would say Yes, but the likelihood of Year Round school becoming the norm is extremely slim. Until then, parents should find time to carve out in their summer days to work with their child on keeping their skills up to speed. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, drastic, or time consuming.
