Bat and Spider Cups

Perfect for holding drinks or goodies at your child's Halloween party.
Materials
  • Black pipe cleaners (4 for each spider cup)
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue or hot glue gun (stapler would also work)
  • Purple paper cups
  • Black construction paper (for bat wings)
  • Small wiggle eyes
Directions
  1. Cut four pipe cleaners in half to make eight spider legs.
  2. Fold one end of each pipe cleaner up 1/4 inch.
  3. Glue the folded part to the side of the cup, putting four legs on each side. Bend legs into a spider pose.
  4. Cut two bat wings from black construction paper.
  5. Bend the ends and glue one on each side of a cup.
  6. Glue eyes on each cup. Let dry.
  7. Serve drinks or treats in the cups.
Creepy Crawly Spider Bracelets
This is a fun and easy Halloween project that can be done with younger children. They love tracing their hands and fingers whenever they are playing with crayons or markers, so this is simply a "twist" on an old favorite.
Materials
  • Black construction paper
  • Wiggle eyes
  • White paper (for "fangs")
  • Paper fastener
  • Stapler and staples
  • Scissors
  • White crayon
  • Glue
  • Pencil
Directions
  1. Fold black construction paper in half.
  2. Along folded edge, lay child's hand palm down (midway through palm) and trace fingers with white crayon.
  3. Cut out the outline of the fingers.
  4. Unfold and you have a complete image of a spider with eight legs. Now turn the spider over and with the pencil, roll the legs around the pencil...this makes the legs curl under and gives a more creepy, crawly effect.
  5. Cut a 1" strip of black paper from the remaining scraps, and form it into a circle for the bracelet part. At the appropriate length, staple the ends together.
  6. Attach the bracelet to the underside center of the spider using the paper fastener.
  7. Glue on the wiggle eyes and the "fangs" that you design and cut from the white paper to the spider's head.
  8. The child puts his/her fingers or wrist through the bracelet...the kids can make their spiders creep and crawl with a back & forth rocking motion of their wrists. The paper fastener allows the spider to turn back and forth or 360 degrees, too!
Q-Tip Skeleton Using black construction paper, Q-tips, white paper, scissors and glue you can create a skeleton body. You can make your skeleton a dancing skeleton or a standing skeleton. Use your imagination and have fun! Materials
  • Black construction paper
  • Q-tips
  • White paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
Directions
  1. Using the white paper you can draw a skeleton skull. Cut out the skull and then glue that to your black construction paper.
  2. Using the Q-tips as bones you can arrange your skeleton body. Give your skeleton some arms, legs, ribs, etc. You can cut the Q-tips into smaller pieces to be used as smaller joints.
  3. Glue all the Q-tips on the black paper once you have it laid out like you like!
Supplies
  1. Black Construction Paper
  2. White Paint
  3. Scissors
  4. Round, Metal Cake or Pie Pan
  5. Marble
  6. plastic spider
  7. clear glue stick
Directions:
Cut a piece of construction paper to fit into the bottom of the cake or pie pan. Place about a teaspoon white paint in the middle of the paper. Drop the marble into the pan and tilt it back and forth, rolling the marble over the paper. As the marble rolls, it will leave trails on the paper, like a spider weaving a web.

Allow about 1 hour or so to dry. Once dry, roll glue onto the bottom of plastic spider, and place in center of web.

HALLOWEEN CAROLS

UP IN THE PUMPKIN PATCH
(Tune: Up on the Housetop)

Up in the pumpkin patch,
Witches pause,
Out jumps the Great One,
Hear the applause?!
Down through the rows
With goodies and toys
All for this followers'
Halloween joys!
Haunt! Haunt! Haunt!
Who wouldn't want...
Haunt! Haunt! Haunt!
Who wouldn't want...
To be in the pumpkin patch?
Cheer! Cheer! Cheer!
Waiting for the Great One
And being sincere!
GREAT PUMPKIN IS COMING TO TOWN
(Tune: Santa Claus is Coming to Town)
Oh, you better not shriek,
You better not groan,
You better not howl,
You better not moan,
Great Pumpkin is coming to town!

He's going to find out
 From folks that he meets
Who deserves tricks
And who deserves treats;
Great Pumpkin is coming to town.

He'll search in every pumpkin patch,
Haunted houses far and near,
To see if you've been spreading gloom,
Or bringing lots of cheer.

So, you better not shriek,
You better not groan,
You better not howl,
You better not moan,
Great Pumpkin is coming to town!
ONE JACK-O-LANTERN
(Tune: Elephant Song)
One Jack-o-lantern went out to play
upon a pumpkin vine one day,
He had so much spooky fun
He called for another Jack-o-lantern to come

One child stands to start - then chooses 2nd Jack-o-lantern. As each
Jack-o-lantern is added children count and tell how many until all are
standing in a row - then vine breaks and all fall down!
THE HALLOWEEN PARTY
(Tune: Mary Had a Little Lamb)
Pump-kins have such hap-py grins, hap-py grins, hap-py grins.
Pump-kins have such hap-py grins. It's Hal-low-een at last.
Cats have come with long, black tails, long, black tails, long, black tails.
Cats have come with long, black tails. It's Hal-low-een at last.
Ghosts have come to school to-day, school to-day, school to-day.
Ghosts have come to school to-day. It's Hal-low-een at last.
Witch-es have their witch-es brooms, witch-es brooms, witch-es brooms.
Witch-es have their witch-es brooms. It's Hal-low-een at last.
I'M A LITTLE SPIDER
(Tune: I'm a Little Teapot)
I'm a little spider,
Watch me spin.
If you'll be my dinner,
I'll let you come in.
Then I'll spin my web to hold you tight,
And gobble you up in one big bite!
PUMPKIN SONG
(Tune: Mary Had a Little Lamb)
We are pumpkins big and round, big and round, big and round.
We are pumpkins big and round sitting on the ground.

See our great big shiny eyes, shiny eyes, shiny eyes.
See our great big shiny eyes, looking all around.

See our great big laughing mouth, laughing mouth, laughing mouth.
See our great big laughing mouth, smiling right at you!
THIS OLD GHOST
(Tune: This Old Man)
This old ghost, he played one,
He played peek-a-boo on the run.
With a Boo! Boo! Boo! and a clap, clap, snap!
This old ghost is a friendly chap.

This old ghost, he played two,
He played peek-a-boo in a shoe.
With a Boo! Boo! Boo! and a clap, clap, snap!
This old ghost is a friendly chap.

This old ghost, he played three,
He played peek-a-boo behind a tree.
With a Boo! Boo! Boo! and a clap, clap, snap,
This old ghost is a friendly chap.

A witch went riding on a broom
On a cold October evening;
She met a ghost and a big black cat,
And down her neck they were breathing.
"Jump up on my broom," she said,
"Let's come out of hiding,"
"Jump up on my broom," she said,
"And let's all go a-riding!"

Snowman
Last year my 3 year old was a snowman. It was the easiest costume so far! I bought white sweats, christmas socks, white keds tennis shoes, a cheap black hat, fake snow, mittens, scarf and black pom poms for the coal! I sprayed the hat to look like snow and added a cheap red bird from the craft store. I bought a white mask and bought a cheap carrot from the craft store and glued it onto the nose part of the mask. I glued the pompoms on his sweatshirt and that was it. Cheap, simple and he was adorable. Besides he was the only frosty we saw! He also had to have white face makeup on!!

Butterfly
Put on black sweats and black shoes. Use a piece of poster board and paint wanted color cut them out in an appropriate wing shape. punch two holes toward the edges of the wings. put black ribbon through them and tie around waist. attach pipe cleaners and pompoms to a plastic head band

Fireman
  • A yellow or black raincoat.
  • Plastic Firemans hat from costume shop.

Do you have a yellow or black raincoat? All you need to do is put red reflective tape on it around the sleeves while it is dry. Using black electricians tape put a large number on the back of the raincoat. Purchase an inexpensive firemans hat and your done. You can cary around a red fire bucket to collect your candy in. Maybe a friend or family member is a fireman and can let you borrow an official raincoat and helmet.
